5 Philly Events In August

We are all too familiar with the brutal winter weather in Philadelphia. *sigh* Luckily, we still have plenty of warm weather to take advantage of this summer. For those looking for fun things to do in downtown Philadelphia, here are 5 awesome events coming up in August.

1. BlackStar Film Festival - August 1-4

Known to many as "the black Sundance," this film festival displays independent films by people of color, predominantly about the global Black experience. Held in International House Philadelphia, this event is a must-see.

2. Philly Free Streets - August 3, 8:00am-1:00pm

An eight-mile stretch of North Broad Street between City Hall and Butler Street will be shut down to vehicular traffic, so people can walk and bike in the street. Various attractions appear along the route, including numerous fitness opportunities, a pop-up picnic, and more.

3. 2nd Street Festival - August 4, Noon-10:00pm

North 2nd Street will be shut down for a festival of art, food, street performances, live music, and beer gardens. Of all the fun things to do in downtown Philadelphia, this is something you can't miss.

4. Night Market Philadelphia: Fairmount Avenue - August 15, 6:00-10:00pm

Philly welcomes the third Night Market of the 2019 season, meaning food trucks, live music and neighborhood fun on Fairmount Avenue.

5. Citadel Country Spirit USA - August 23-25, 2019

The lineup this year includes Billy Currington, Little Big Town, Lauren Alaina, and more. In addition to the music, Ludwig's Corner House Show Grounds includes attractions, and plenty of food and drinks.
